This book is a collection of photographs documenting the “Nihon University Struggle” that began in 1968, and was photographed and edited by students who were part of the Nihon University Zenkyoto Documentation Team. The university struggles that began with accounting irregularities on the part of the Nichi-Dai authorities and the suppression by the government and police, and which also involved unions and parents, became particularly violent among the university struggles of the 1960s, especially those at the University of Tokyo and Nichi-Dai. Although the images were taken by amateur photographers, their high quality and excellent layout and design show the underlying strength of Japanese photography in the 1960s. The following words from the editor's postscript explain the spirit of these photographers and the reasons why they produced such wonderful work. Sometimes with a Geva stick, sometimes with a camera in hand, we took a lot of pictures. We are not afraid of being imperfect. We understand that it is the imperfection that makes it so joyful and beautiful. (The Japanese Photobook 1912-1990)
