"Hillbilly heroin" is a slang term for the prescription painkiller Oxycontin, often used by miners. There is a wide-spread black market for this drug, which in high dosage has a heroin-like effect."

"Hannah Modigh was born in Stockholm in 1980 and spent her childhood in India and Österlen, Sweden. She studied photography in Copenhagen, Biskops Arnö and the Royal College of Art in Stockholm. Her work have won multiple awards, including the TT's Great Photography Prize and the Lars Tunbjörk Prize.
Modigh's photography is characterised by a sense of fine detail, intimate portraits. She has created six poetic photo books; Hillbilly Heroin, Honey 2010, a dying coal mining town in Appalachia, Sunday mornin comin down 2012, young men working in the sex industry in San Francisco, Hurricane season a search for storms, behind doors, inside people, taken in Louisiana. Portraits of Swedish youth in search of identity in The Milky Way. Delta it's about time, a search for traces that depict the presence of an absence, where life and death vibrate under a fragile border with the outside world. The most recent work is Archive of longing, a series of portraits from a shelter Hannah worked for many years.
Modigh's work have been exhibited throughout Europe and the USA. Her work is represented at Moderna Museet in Sweden, which is one of Europe’s leading museums for modern and contemporary art."
