Description from the seller

Offset lithograph on thick cream Speckle Tone paper. Signed by Shepard Fairey by hand. The artwork is in perfect condition and will be shipped rolled in a sturdy tube.

The artwork 'Make Art Not War' was created by Shepard Fairey during the Iraq War. The title of the piece is an alternative phrase inspired by the popular anti-war mantra of the 1960s, 'Make love, not war.' In this case, Fairey asserts the need for creative acts rather than destructive ones.
The Art Nouveau style of the image is an additional reference to the influence of Art Nouveau on 1960s hippie and psychedelic art, including many anti-Vietnam War posters.

Encased in a floral garland, the female figure appears more confident and more real rather than ethereal. The placement of two brushes beneath her portrait not only references a classic tool of artistic production but also resembles lances, which, when read alongside the 'OBEY' directive appearing on her neck, make the message more powerful.
