VERY SCARCE, SOUGHT-AFTER GERMAN PHOTO PUBLICATION - 
with 16 (!) photos by the legendary Michael Schmidt, first German photographer who got a solo exhibition at MoMA (Museum of Modern Art, New York).

Excellent catalogue of Michael Schmidt and his students, published to accompany an exhibition held in winter 1980 in Berlin. 

Michael Schmidt ('U-ni-ty', 'Waffenruhe') was founder of the 'Werkstatt für Photographie' in Berlin-Kreuzberg and the director of that photography class for 10 years (1976-1986).
It was about the content of photography and its independence, not about adopting any style and certainly not about money and service. Michael Schmidt taught in the Beuysian sense without access restriction and discussed; he gave workshops or organised them, made exhibitions, organised lectures and was ultimately (co-)responsible for a photographic attitude of a certain group of professionals and amateurs that stood bulky (rebellious) to the mainstream.

Black and white and color photos by Michael Schmidt, Friedhelm Denkeler, Wolfgang Eilmes, Jürgen Frisch, Ulrich Görlich, Wilmar Koenig, Thomas Leuner, Winfried Mateyka, Klaus-P. Voutta and Ursula Wüst. Text in German.

Condition:
Inside clean with no marks, pages smell like smoke. Inside and outside yellowed at the edges what is often the case (material problem), but here perhaps a bit stronger than usual (cause of the smoke); no other remarkable flaws or defects. Overall very good condition.

Great, early Michael Schmidt publication, which all are very sought-after and mostly very scarce, cause of the small print-run and cause of the popularity of Schmidt.
