Groot beeld van het Heilig Hart van Jezus, vervaardigd uit gips. Christus wordt afgebeeld staand op een wolkenbasis, met op de borst het vurige Heilig Hart – omringd door doornen en bekroond met een vlam, symbool van zijn goddelijke liefde en offer.

Het beeld werd in de loop der tijd gepatineerd, waardoor het een uitgesproken verweerde en antieke uitstraling heeft. Onder de huidige afwerking zijn op verschillende plaatsen nog sporen zichtbaar van de oorspronkelijke polychromie. De gezichtsuitdrukking en de gevouwen plooien van het gewaad zijn nog mooi herkenbaar.

Let op: de rechterhand van Jezus ontbreekt, maar ondanks deze schade behoudt het beeld zijn indrukwekkende devotionele en esthetische kracht.

De verering van het Heilig Hart gaat terug tot de 13e eeuw en vindt zijn oorsprong waarschijnlijk in het Johannes-evangelie, waar een lans de zijde van de gekruisigde Christus doorboort. Dit beeld is een prachtig voorbeeld van deze eeuwenoude devotie.

Over het algemeen in goede staat, met enkele ouderdomssporen. Zoals vermeld ontbreekt Jezus' rechterhand. Bekijk aub goed de foto's, ze zijn deel van de beschrijving.
