Rare first book edition of Peter and Wendy, the Peter Pan story as we all know it.

Hodder & Stoughton, London - 1911 First UK edition, first printing of the famous Peter Pan story with beautiful full-page illustrations by F.D. Bedford (without mentioning of later printings on verso of title page as required for first issue) - 267p, 18cmx15cm -  13 plates incl. pictorial title page - condition: very good, hardback, in publisher’s green cloth with gilt decorations and lettering to upper board and spine, rubbing to boards and spine, some plates loose, complete with all plates, some page foxing.

This is the first edition of J.M. Barrie’s classic tale of the “boy who wouldn’t grow up”, published in October 1911 – the true first issue, with no publishing date to the reverse of the title page. The character of Peter Pan first appeared in print in 1902, in ‘The Little White Bird’, but it was only with the publication of ‘Peter and Wendy’ that Peter Pan was truly immortalized in book form, alongside Tinker Bell, Captain Hook and the Lost Boys.
