Nikolaus Vigelius (1529-1600), a professor at Marburg, was one of the leading legal methodists of the late sixteenth century. His ‘Gerichtsbuchlein’ is a comparative collection of cases judged under Roman law, canon law and the customary laws of the Holy Roman Empire. First published in 1588, it went through several regularly extended editions into the eighteenth century.
