Jack Daniel's Gold Medal is a limited edition that commemorates the winning of 7 gold medals at prestigious international competitions. This special bottle, Jack Daniel's Gold Medal 1954, is the sixth release and a tribute to the competition held in Brussels.

It could be said that back then, Jack Daniel’s won the competition with its “most ordinary whiskey,” simply what they had on hand at the distillery. Herb Fanning had a hand in that success.

Jack Daniel’s boasts 7 world-renowned and highly prestigious awards. Behind the sixth one lies a captivating story. When Reagor Motlow, one of Lem Motlow’s sons, learned about the competition in Brussels, Belgium, he passed the news to his right-hand man, Herb Fanning. Herb was put in charge of the entire process.

How did he handle it? He went straight to the production line, grabbed the first three bottles available, and shipped them across the ocean. When the marketing department found out, they were a bit alarmed. They asked why Herb hadn’t chosen a special edition instead. Herb simply responded that everything Jack Daniel’s makes is special enough to win a world-class award.

And he was right. In 1954, the brand won the Star of Excellence gold medal, which is now proudly featured on this remarkable bottle of classic American whiskey. Herb Fanning kept his job for many years and even appeared in several Jack Daniel’s advertisements. He became one of the most well-known and beloved citizens of Lynchburg. He even had a statue on the town square until 1997.
