Capital (3) - Pair of capitals, one with a base

Capital (3) - Pair of capitals, one with a base

Splendid pair of capitals, one with a marble and sandstone base, originating from the former Convent of the Celestines in Cesena, purchased by the Savings Bank of Cesena in 1870, which, after proper restorations, became the headquarters of the institute, still in use today.

The Celestine convent in Cesena was founded in 1352 by Gualtieri VI of Brienne, Count of Lecce and Duke of Athens. Originally located in the area of the castle, it was later demolished in 1549 for the construction of new walls and a fortress. The Celestines then settled in the current site; the capitals come from the original foundation and were later reused in the new location.

In particular:
Stone sandstone capitello in Ionic style, decorated on the front with the emblem of the Celestini (the cross crossed by the S).
2) Marble capital in Carrara white marble, complete with base (the 2 elements are detached), in Doric style.
Notes on the Reform Project of the Celestini premises in Cesena, a manuscript from 1870, which reports the main interventions carried out to adapt the convent for the bank's premises, including the reorganization of the cloister's portico, from which the capitals originate.

Due to the weight and size, only direct pickup in Cesena is available; shipping can be arranged by the buyer at their own expense.

All the items presented come from the family collection, gathered over three generations, ranging from paintings, furniture, books, prints, silverware, jewelry, sculptures, weapons/military items, to antiques.
Each lot is accompanied by a certificate confirming its provenance from the collection.
