Paul A. Bonifas - "L'inquetudine e il sublime"

De monografie "Paul Bonifas: rusteloosheid en het sublieme" ontstond ter gelegenheid van de tentoonstelling over Paul Bonifas die van 17 september tot 13 november 1994 in de kunstenaarsclub van Faenza werd gehouden.

Beroemdste Zwitserse keramist!!

Paul-Ami Bonifas, geboren op 11 november 1893 in Genève, Zwitserland, en overleden in juni 1967 in Seattle, Verenigde Staten, was een Zwitserse keramist. [1]
Paul Bonifas ging in 1910 naar de School voor Schone Kunsten in Genève en bleef daar tot 1913. Tegelijkertijd was hij in de leer bij zijn vader als graveur en juwelier. Hij studeerde scheikunde en mineralogie en ging vervolgens naar de Zwitserse Keramiek school. In 1914 opende Paul Bonifas een keramiekatelier in Versoix. Hij ontving een bronzen medaille op de Wereldtentoonstelling van Bern. Paul Bonifas werkte samen met talloze kunstenaars, waaronder Charles L'Eplattenier en Jeanne Perrochet. 
Hij kreeg de hulp van Alice Sordet, met wie hij in 1917 trouwde. Nadat zijn werkplaats in 1919 door brand werd verwoest, ging hij in Parijs in een porseleinfabriek werken. Van 1921 tot 1922 was hij secretaris van het tijdschrift L’Esprit nouveau, opgericht door de schilder Amédée Ozenfant en de architect Le Corbusier. In 1922 verliet hij Parijs en nam een ​​pottenbakkerij over in Ferney-Voltaire.
Lid van de Zwitserse Romandische Vereniging voor Kunst en Industrie, van de jury van de Salon des arts decorativa (1925), en in 1926 ontving hij een medaille van de Société des arts de Genève
In 1937 stelde Pierre Bonifas verschillende stukken tentoon op de Internationale Tentoonstelling van Kunst en Technologie. De oorlog dwong hem in 1940 zijn werkplaats te sluiten en zijn activiteiten te diversifiëren. In 1945 vertrok hij naar de Verenigde Staten om aan de Universiteit van Washington een afdeling keramische kunst op te zetten. Na de oorlog droeg hij de gebouwen van zijn pottenbakkersatelier over aan zijn vrouw, die de productie van aardewerk onder de naam Lifas weer opstartte. Daarna gaf hij les aan de Universiteit van Seattle tot 1959.
