Japan - Flag - Imperial Japanese Army Yosegaki Hinomaru – 武運長久 “Bu'un Chōkyū” – WWII Good Luck Flag
Item Description:
This is a vintage Imperial Japanese Army yosegaki hinomaru flag, traditionally gifted to soldiers as a token of encouragement upon deployment. The central red sun is surrounded by handwritten messages and names from friends, family, or community members, offering support and prayers for safety and victory. The bold characters "武運長久" ("Bu'un Chōkyū", meaning "eternal fortune in war") are prominently written across the top, a typical phrase of well-wishing. The opposite side features additional signatures and well-wishes, indicating that this flag was likely used and carried. Made of lightweight cloth with a hand-painted red sun, the piece shows authentic age-related wear, giving it historical depth and emotional resonance. A significant piece of mid-20th century Japanese militaria and social history.
