In dit boek bezoeken Christo en Jeanne-Claude de Rocky Mountains om de installatie voor te bereiden van een tijdelijk kunstwerk, Over the River, een project voor Arkansas River in de staat Colorado. 
Er zullen ongeveer 1025 stoffen panelen horizontaal hoog boven de rivierbedding van de Arkansas worden opgehangen, een gebied van 11,3 kilometer tussen Salida en Parkdale. 
De stroom van opeenvolgende panelen - 2 tot 7 meter boven de rivier - zal worden onderbroken door bruggen, rotsen, bomen en struiken, terwijl een ruimte tussen de oevers en de randen van de doorschijnende stoffen panelen zonlicht de rivier zal laten verlichten. 
Zoals alle voorgaande kunstprojecten wordt Over the River volledig gefinancierd door Christo en Jeanne-Claude, door de verkoop van voorbereidend werk. 
Deze tekeningen, litho's, collages en schaalmodellen worden in dit boek gepresenteerd, samen met talloze foto's van hun ontmoetingen en hun reizen naar de Rocky Mountains.
