Nostalgic China" is a collection of photographs by Japanese photographer Shin Tomura. He lived in China from 1930 to 1941, and as part of a cultural project against China, he was assigned as a teacher at the Qingdao Institute, a co-educational school for Chinese and Japanese in Qingdao Special City, Shandong Province, where he taught economics and accounting, etc. Later he joined and worked for the Fushang Corporation, which made great achievements in improving the lives of the suffering people of Shandong Province. Although most of the films he had taken over the years were destroyed in an air raid, some of the films taken between 1937 and 1941, before the war, survived the disaster. This book is a collection of photographs compiled from some of those films. It is a valuable record of the “anti-Japanese” movement that took place in the midst of the worsening Sino-Japanese relations after the Manchurian Incident. The book was published at his own expense to show his respect for the Chinese people, who “seek peace, respect for faith and friendship,” and to promote close relations with China and wish for the prosperity of the nation together. 500 copies limited.
