Zeldzame industriële melkbus uit het begin van de 20e eeuw, afkomstig van de Algemeene Arbeiders-Coöperatie De Dageraad in Amsterdam. Deze coöperatie werd opgericht in 1900 met als doel arbeiders te voorzien van betaalbare en kwalitatieve levensmiddelen, waaronder verse melk. De coöperatie omvatte onder meer een eigen melkfabriek en vormde daarmee een belangrijke schakel in de sociale en economische infrastructuur van de stad. In 1921 fuseerde De Dageraad met andere coöperaties tot de neutrale coöperatie “Samenwerking”.

In de vroege 20e eeuw breidde De Dageraad haar activiteiten uit met de opening van meerdere kruidenierswinkels in Amsterdam. In 1911 telde de coöperatie al negen winkels, verspreid over de stad. Deze winkels fungeerden als directe distributiepunten voor leden van de coöperatie.

De hier aangeboden vierkante melkbus is voorzien van geklonken naden en draagt het ingeslagen opschrift "Dageraad" en "Volle Melk". Vermoedelijk heeft deze bus in één van de winkels gestaan, waaruit flessen werden gevuld voor verkoop aan klanten – een gebruikelijke praktijk in de tijd vóór voorverpakte melk.
