Presentamos un cráneo parcial fósil de un celacanto prehistórico, procedente del Valle de Kem Kem, Marruecos. Este ejemplar, de 18.8 cm, pertenece al género Mawsonia, uno de los celacantos más grandes que han existido, alcanzando longitudes de hasta 6 metros.
Los celacantos son considerados fósiles vivientes, pues han cambiado muy poco en más de 400 millones de años. A diferencia de los celacantos modernos (Latimeria), Mawsonia habitaba aguas dulces y costeras, en lugar de ambientes profundos. Su mandíbula fuerte y estructura ósea única lo convierten en una pieza excepcional para la paleontología.

We present a partial fossil skull of a prehistoric coelacanth, originating from the Kem Kem Valley in Morocco. This specimen, measuring 18.8 cm, belongs to the genus Mawsonia, one of the largest coelacanths that have existed, reaching lengths of up to 6 meters.
Coelacanths are considered living fossils, having changed very little in over 400 million years. Unlike modern coelacanths (Latimeria), Mawsonia inhabited freshwater and coastal waters, rather than deep environments. Its strong jaw and unique bony structure make it an exceptional specimen for paleontology.
