Hellas is a lyrical drama written by Percy Shelley in 1821 during his time in Pisa, Italy, and published in 1822 in London. 

This commemorative limited edition is 1 of only 300 books printed for The Shelley Society in 1886, edited by Thomas J. Wise.  

Wise himself was much later unearthed as a master forger and his literary activity has since become highly sought after and collectible appearing in museums and private collections around the world, including the British Museum.. 

Shelley wrote Hellas with a view to raising money for the Greek War of Independence. 

It was to become his last published poem.

This limited edition book includes a 7 page Shelley Society catalogue at the rear.

CONDITION

Condition varies, the original boards and spine are exposed and worn, the pages are in generally good condition with some color toning, minor foxing and age related wear. 

There is a hand written dedication at front dated 1899. 

Please refer to the many large photographs provided to reassure yourself of the exact condition before bidding. 

Still quite tight pagination in the original Shelley Society printed cover (60 pages, approximately 24cms x 16cms).
