Description:  
A rare and historically significant first edition photo book by renowned Japanese photographer Kazutaka Narahara. Published in 1967 by Kajima Research Institute Publishing. Titled “The Place Where Time Stands Still,” this work compiles Narahara's personal records from his travels across Europe between 1962 and 1965, during which he photographed over 30,000 images across the continent. This photo book weaves these moments into a powerful narrative, exploring the tension between time, space, and memory.

Narahara, a pioneer in post-war Japanese photography, was known for his experimental and avant-garde approach. After graduating from Chuo University, he studied art history at Waseda University and made his debut in 1956 with “Human Land.” In 1958, he won the Japan Photographic Critics Association Newcomer Award for “Domain.” This book reflects his unique perspective, blending documentary photography with a poetic viewpoint.

The photobook features both black-and-white and color images, along with surreal visual compositions and the innovative “radio binding” technique developed in collaboration with the legendary Kohei Sugihara and Mitsuo Katsui. The printing was handled by Toppan Printing Co., Ltd., and the book's large format (approximately 315×215×30mm) allows for an impressive spread of pages.

This book is excellent in many ways and is in overall good condition, but there is some wear. It is an old book, so there are some areas with stains and scuffs.
