In der traditionellen afrikanischen Kunst gibt es viele verschiedene Fetische, 
deren Verwendung unterschiedlich ist. Sie können sowohl nützlich als auch böse sein, entgegen der negativen Vorstellung, die viele haben. 
Sie beziehen sich im Allgemeinen auf die Lösung von Fruchtbarkeitsproblemen, Pech, schlechtem Wetter oder einfach Beziehungsproblemen. Fali-Fetische werden oft entsprechend ihrer Struktur abgelehnt: eine Skelettmetallzusammenfassung, auf die der Hexendoktor ein Seil wickeln wird. 
Der Besitzer des Fetischs kann ihn dann bei sich tragen oder Riten durchführen.
