1st German edition of Jules Verne´s "The Carpathian Castle".
With 40 b/w illustrations by Froment.
Very rare edition with the original typical gilded binding.

Condition: few pages little bit dirty, slightly scuffed binding edges, otherwise very good and nice condition.

The first edition of Jules Verne's "The Carpathian Castle" (French: Le Château des Carpathes) was published in 1892. It's a Gothic novel that tells the story of Count Franz de Télek, who investigates mysterious occurrences at a castle in the Carpathian Mountains after hearing villagers believe the devil inhabits it. The story is believed to have influenced Bram Stoker's "Dracula". 

First published in France in 1892, and in English in 1893 by Sampson Low, Marston & Company. 

Verne blends these Gothic elements with 19th-century scientific advancements, particularly in electricity, to explain the seemingly supernatural events. 

The story is set in Transylvania, in a village called Werst, nestled in the Carpathian Mountains.
