De Mosasauridae, ook wel maashagedissen genoemd, zijn een familie van uitgestorven zeereptielen uit de orde schubreptielen (Squamata). De familie dankt haar naam aan de rivier de Maas (Latijn: Mosa), omdat in de kalksteengroeven nabij Maastricht in 1766 de eerste fossielen van mosasauriden werden gevonden.

Het waren veelal grote en waarschijnlijk krachtige roofdieren. Van enkele exemplaren is alleen de kop al zo'n drie meter lang en daarmee behoren ze tot de grootste dieren die ooit hebben geleefd. Mosasauriden hadden een extra rij tanden in hun gehemelte, waarmee ze de prooi vasthielden terwijl de kaken voorwaarts bewogen om hem door te slikken. De schedelvorm van de mosasauriden wijst op een verwantschap met de varanen.
