This is a beautiful behind-the-scenes publicity/production photo from Giant (1956), taken on location during filming in Marfa, Texas. It shows Elizabeth Taylor and James Dean relaxing between takes next to a prop car used in the film.

He was commissioned to shoot candid “on-set” photos of the cast during Hollywood productions, and his Giant images (including this one) are among his most famous.

Context:
The photo captures a quiet moment between scenes while filming Giant, the epic drama directed by George Stevens. Avery was known for capturing Hollywood stars in informal, unguarded moments, and on the Giant set he documented Taylor and Dean off-camera during rehearsals and breaks. This image is one of several taken during a break in shooting the early scenes set in the Texas desert (filmed near Marfa), before Dean’s character becomes older in the story.
