Notre Dame des Victoires - gips - eind 19de, begin 20ste eeuw

Dit beeld van Notre Dame des Victoires is vervaardigd uit fijn gips en valt op door de mooie beschildering.

Maria is voorgesteld als koningin van de hemel, gekroond en staande op een wolkenbasis met twee cherubijntjes aan haar voeten. Haar houding straalt rust en bescherming uit, terwijl haar blik teder op Jezus is gericht.

Jezus, eveneens gekroond, staat op een bol met sterren, gedragen door een wolkenzuil. Zijn uitgestrekte armen symboliseren zijn universele aanwezigheid en uitnodiging tot verlossing.

De Notre Dame des Victoires verwijst naar de gelijknamige basiliek in Parijs, waar het oorspronkelijke beeld te vinden is. De kroon op de gevel van de kerk verwijst naar Koning Lodewijk XIII, aan wie de overwinning werd toegeschreven, en verklaart de naam van het heiligdom. Pauselijke toestemming was destijds vereist om de figuren met een kroon uit te beelden.

Door de jaren heen heeft het beeld een uitgesproken patina ontwikkeld, met zichtbare ouderdomssporen die bijdragen aan de authenticiteit. Het verkeert in goede algemene staat, met sporen van gebruik passend bij de leeftijd.
