Een drieluik van de Amerikaanse kunstenaar Roy Lichtenstein. Het is een van de bekendste pop-artwerken en een van de belangrijkste werken van Lichtenstein.

Lichtenstein bewerkte het beeld van verschillende stripverhalen, met als primaire bron een door Irv Novick geïllustreerd paneel uit een oorlogsstripboek uit 1962. Lichtenstein transformeerde de bron door het als een drieluik te presenteren en de relatie tussen de grafische en verhalende elementen te veranderen.
Lichtenstein studeerde als kunstenaar voor en na zijn diensttijd in het Amerikaanse leger tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Hij oefende luchtafweer tijdens de basistraining en werd uitgezonden voor een pilotenopleiding, maar het programma werd geannuleerd voordat het begon. Na de oorlog hield hij zich onder andere bezig met romantiek en oorlog. Hij schilderde luchtgevechten in verschillende werken. 

Maakt deel uit van een serie over oorlog waaraan hij tussen 1962 en 1964 werkte en is samen met As I Opened Fire (1964) een van zijn beste schilderijen met een oorlogsthema.
