Masque - bois - chokwe - Angola 

L’ethnie Tshkwé ou Tchokwé habite l’Angola et la République Populaire du Congo. Leurs objets sont décorés de motifs géométriques caractéristiques de l’ethnie.
 Les masques Tshokwé sont portés soit pour des rites initiatiques, soit pour l’exercice du pouvoir politique et judiciaire, soit au cours de rites liés à la fécondité.
Les statues représentent souvent leurs ancêtres Luba. Les masques Tshokwé, réalisés par des artisans sculpteurs sont en bois, ils sont souvent coiffés et sont reconnaissables à une scarification frontale en forme de croix.
Ils sont souvent utilisés par des sociétés initiatiques. Les futurs initiés (tundanji), c’est-à-dire les garçons entre 8 et 12 ans, qui viennent d’être circoncis, séjournent pendant quelques mois dans un camp d’initiation en brousse pour y suivre un enseignement.
