Les planches ou tablettes nommées Lukasa, souvent surmontées d'une tête féminine, étaient destinées et utilisées par les historiens luba connus sous le nom de bana balute ("les hommes de mémoire"). Ces derniers faisaient courir leurs doigts sur la surface d'un Lukasa ou pointaient des éléments particuliers, tout en récitant les généalogies, les listes de rois, les protocoles, les histoires épiques de la grande migration luba, Ces tablettes peuvent donc être considérées comme des outils mnémotechniques. 
Hauteur 30 cm X largeur 14 cm X profondeur 7 cm.
