Antieke zilveren chatelaine – Frankrijk, ca. 1890 exclusieve komplete Chatelaine 

Prachtige complete zilveren chatelaine uit Frankrijk, gedateerd rond 1890.
De chatelaine bestaat uit een ketting van 44 cm met een pendant van 14 cm, waaraan vijf originele accessoires hangen:

Een gegraveerd luciferdoosje 3 x 4 cm

Een fijn zilveren beugeltasje met schakeltjes 5 x 8 cm

Een cilindervormige etui (waarschijnlijk voor naalden of lucifers) 6 x 1.5 cm

Een gegraveerde podloodhouder 6 x 0.8 cm

Een ronde gegraveerde poederdoos met spiegeltje 4 x 4 cm


Alle onderdelen zijn rijkelijk gedecoreerd in typisch 19de-eeuwse stijl met florale en rocaille-motieven. Elk stuk is gemerkt met zilverkeur, evenals de ketting.
Het frans minerva kopje (800/1000) en meesterkeur ms zijn duidelijk te zien.

Historische context:
De chatelaine was in de 18de en 19de eeuw een onmisbaar mode- en gebruiksvoorwerp voor dames uit de hogere klasse. Het werd gedragen aan de taille en diende zowel als statussymbool als praktisch hulpmiddel: sleutels, tassen, naaibenodigdheden, cosmetica of notitieboekjes konden zo steeds bij de hand gehouden worden. Vooral in Frankrijk en Engeland werd de zilveren chatelaine een geliefd pronkstuk, vaak rijk gedecoreerd en soms gepersonaliseerd. Tegen het einde van de 19de eeuw kreeg de chatelaine een meer sierlijke en luxueuze functie, zoals in dit exemplaar duidelijk te zien is.
