The Photographic Summer 2011 / Shamanatsu 2011, a collection of works by Nobuyoshi Araki, one of post-war Japan's most representative photographers.

It is likely that, among all photographers who have ever existed worldwide, Nobuyoshi Araki stands as number one in terms of the sheer volume of work he has produced and the number of published collections.

His photobooks easily exceed 500 titles. Recent works extend beyond re-edited past material or unpublished works, such as “Moonlight Photographs” compiling his early 1960s work. His creative output shows no sign of abating, encompassing the “Shakurōjin” series – compiling his daily diary-like photography as his latest work – and regular collaborations with fashion brands like SLY.

This volume was published to coincide with an exhibition held in 2011 at the Shibuya branch of Hysteric Glamour, then operated by Rat Hole.

Seeking to depict a reality that tore apart people's memories and thoughts, Araki presented new works by splitting existing pieces like “Faces of the Japanese”, “Eros of the Married Woman”, and “Kinkaku” in two and reconnecting them. 150 works included. Limited edition of 700 copies.
