Set of 45 colour photographs taken in various countries: United States (Los Angeles, Las Vegas), Morocco, Belgium, India. All captioned on the left-hand page. Heavily influenced by cinema (particularly Antonioni) and pop art, Harry Gruyaert (born in 1941 in Antwerp) has created a very personal colour palette - ‘colour is a way of sculpting what I see’ - in the tradition of other photographers such as Saul Leiter, William Eggleston and Stephen Shore. 

Catalogue of the exhibition of photographs by Harry Gruyaert, organised by the Centre National de la Photographie and presented at the Palais de Tokyo from 24 April to 9 June 1986.

Introduction 'L'éclat de l'image' ('The Brilliance of the Image') by Alain Macaire in French and, at the end, a two-column text in French and English by Richard Nonas, followed by a leaflet containing biographical and bibliographical information and details of solo exhibitions. 

Condition:
Inside and outside clean with no marks and with no foxing, very fresh and flawless and only very light trace of use, excepted neat stain at the bottom right corner of the last thirteen page; no other remarkable flaws or defects. Overall fine condition.

Wonderful, very scarce Harry Gruyaert publication from 1986 - long time before he became a photography superstar.

"Born in Belgium in 1941, Harry Gruyaert studied photography and film-making. He made a few films as director of photography for Flemish television before turning to color photographs in his adopted Paris in the early 1960s.
By the end of the 1970s he had travelled to the United States, India, Egypt, Japan and Morocco. The latter was a revelation to Gruyaert whose images of the country were later published in two different books. In the early 1970s, while he was living in London, he worked on a series of color television screen shots later to become the TV Shots now part of the Centre Pompidou collections. Around the same period he also photographed his homeland and produced two books, Made in Belgium and Roots."
