Antique faceted agate necklace – Idar-Oberstein cut – Germany, circa 1900–1920


Antique necklace with large hand-faceted agate beads in warm honey–olive tones. Originating from Idar-Oberstein, Germany, renowned for its gemstone cutting. A rare early 20th-century collector’s piece.




This antique necklace is composed of impressive hand-cut agate beads, each measuring approx. 3 × 1.5 cm, with a total length of 46 cm and weight of 180 g.

The stones display characteristic honey, olive and amber hues, with natural inclusions and internal veining typical for genuine agate of this period.


The beads were faceted in the famous gemstone-cutting center Idar-Oberstein (Germany), renowned since the 19th century for its mastery in agate and chalcedony. The necklace closes with its original bolt-ring clasp, still functional.


Such necklaces were fashionable in the Edwardian and Art Deco eras (circa 1900–1920), and today they are highly sought after by collectors of antique gemstone jewelry.


Very good antique condition. Natural inclusions, color variations and minor surface irregularities are present, which are not defects but proof of authenticity and age. The clasp works well.


A fine and collectible piece of antique jewelry, both wearable and investment-worthy.
