Franco Fontana is een van de grootste meesters van de hedendaagse kunstfotografie in Italië. Fontana's stijl ontstond eind jaren 60 onder invloed van abstract expressionisme en minimalisme. Zijn meesters waren tijdgenoten Mark Rothko, Barnett Newman en Ed Reinhardt.
In tegenstelling tot de klassieke zwart-witkunstfotografie die destijds overheerste, legt hij in zijn werk de nadruk op vorm en kleur door middel van unieke geometrische composities en levendige tinten.
Franco Fontana heeft meer dan 400 solo- en groepstentoonstellingen gehad en zijn werk is te zien in meer dan 50 musea wereldwijd. Hij heeft ook samengewerkt met de belangrijkste tijdschriften (Time, Life, Vogue...)
Franco Fontana is een Italiaanse fotograaf, geboren in 1933. Hij wordt algemeen erkend als een meester in kleur. Zijn werk is een oogverblindende ode aan stedelijke landschappen, waarbij hij de lichtgevende gebouwen, torenhoge wolkenkrabbers en palmbomen van Ibiza, Havana en Los Angeles vastlegt
