A fine porcelain cup and saucer, the cup measuring circa 6cm in height, the saucer 13,3cm in diameter, together weighing 265g, finely decorated in royal blue and gold enamels to depict the monogram G under garland, the letter G superimposed with crossed wheat sheafs. Marked to the underside in underglaze blue with double C Ludwigsburg manufactory mark, used in the period under the patronage of Duke Karl Eugenius von Württemberg 1759-1793. The service may possibly have been a commission by the aristocratic Von der Goltz family. Remarkable: The decorator appears to have painted the letter G upside down on the saucer. Even more remarkable is that an identical saucer, also painted inversely, turned up on Ebay California recently. Condition: very good, no damages or repairs. Minor wear commensurate with age.
