Statut - bois , fer noir , feuille de bronze - ambeté - gabon 

Les Mbété du bassin supérieur de l'Ogooué et de ses affluents ont élaboré des statues creusées employées comme reliquaires.

Ces représentations contenaient  chez les Mbété du centre, font état d'un culte important des reliques, le Ngoye, une association fermée de chefs de clan attribuant un pouvoir surnaturel à certains ossements de certains de leurs prédécesseurs défunts.
Ces reliques étaient conservées à l'intérieur du torse creux de statues en bois.
