Hét standaardwerk over de lotgevallen van de Vlaamse Vrijwilligers die in de rangen van de Waffen-XX meevochten aan het Oostfront.
In november 1941 waren alle vrijwilligers gehergroepeerd in het Vlaams Legioen.
Reimond Tollenaere, propagandaleider van het VNV, sneuvelde in dienst ervan.
In mei 1943 volgde een nieuwe reorganisatie tot 6. XX-Freiwilligen-Sturmbrigade ‘Langemarck’.
Dit tweedelig werk werd samengesteld door leden van het Sint-Maartensfonds, SMF, de vereniging van Vlaamse oud-oostfronters.
