Handmade Turkish Ebru (Marbling) with Tulip Motif, framed

Description:
A fine example of traditional Turkish ebru (marbling art), featuring a single red tulip (lale) rising gracefully on a light marbled ground, surrounded by a vivid battal ebru border in tones of green, yellow and brown.

The tulip has held a central place in Ottoman iconography for centuries. In Ottoman Turkish, the word lale is composed of the same letters as “Allah”, making it a powerful symbol of divine unity. In addition, the tulip was associated with beauty, humility, and spiritual devotion. Its prominence in Ottoman art reached a peak during the so-called “Tulip Era” (18th century), when the flower became an emblem of refinement and aesthetic culture.

This piece is not a print but a fully handmade artwork. Creating such a motif in marbling requires exceptional skill: the artisan must control liquid pigments on the water’s surface with precision before transferring the design onto paper. The execution of a floral motif—particularly the tulip—demands years of practice and mastery, as it combines abstract marbling with figurative accuracy.
