Prachtig religieus beeld van Maria met Kind, naar een ontwerp van de Franse beeldhouwer Henri Bouriché (1826–1906), uitgevoerd in gepolychromeerd gips.

In dit tedere en ontroerende tafereel zien we Maria als ‘Sedes Sapientiae’ (Zetel der Wijsheid), getooid met een kroon en gehuld in een blauw gewaad. Ze houdt Jezus liefdevol tegen zich aan; het kind rust zijn hoofd op haar schouder en legt zijn handje tegen haar borst. Beide figuren hebben de ogen gesloten in een serene, innerlijke verbondenheid.

De polychromie is nog grotendeels aanwezig, al is er op meerdere plaatsen duidelijke verfslijtage zichtbaar — vooral aan de achterzijde, wat bijdraagt aan het karaktervolle patina van het stuk. Op het voetstuk is de Latijnse inscriptie Sedes Sapientiae aangebracht. Op de zijkant van de basis staat "J. Jacquart, Zilverstraat 6, Brugge", verwijzend naar een voormalige handel in religieuze beelden.

Het beeld is in goede algemene staat, met gebruikssporen passend bij de leeftijd en het materiaal. Zie foto's voor een volledig beeld van de staat.
