La Lettera 22 è stata una popolare macchina da scrivere portatile realizzata dalla società Olivetti a partire dal 1950 e per il suo design innovativo e accattivante è esposta nella collezione permanente di design al Museum of Modern Art di New York (MoMA) ed ebbe numerosi riconoscimenti internazionali:
- nel 1954 in Italia: Premio Compasso d'Oro
- nel 1959 all’estero quale miglior prodotto di design del secolo secondo l'Illinois Institute of Technology nel 1959.

Quella offerta in asta è una PRIMA SERIE con numero di matricola 010856 che consente di collocarla tra quelle prodotte nel 1954: il colore è il tipico tortora liscio ed è corredata della borsa di cartone offerta in omaggio.
L'ultima foto (non inlcusa), tratta dall'archivio Olivetti, evidenzia proprio questa custodia tra i banchi di scuola di una calsse di alunni della metà degli anni '50.

Testata e funzionante, si presenta in buone condizioni di conservazione (ha 70 anni!): il nastro è offerto in omaggio.
