Fine-grained recrystallized texture dominated Endcut of Enstatite chondrite (EL6) - 7.2 g - (1)

Northwest Africa 16059 (NWA 16059) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2023 Jun Classification: Enstatite chondrite (EL6) History: The meteorite was purchased from a meteorite dealer in Errachidia, Morocco. Physical characteristics: Brownish fragment mostly covered with fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite shows a fine-grained recrystallized texture dominated by 30 to 400 µm sized enstatite and sodic feldspar grains. Enstatite grains are partly euhedral adjoining at 120 degree grain boundaries. Some smaller rounded grains are poikilitically enclosed in feldspar. Opaque phases include Si-bearing kamacite, schreibersite, troilite, and Cr-bearing troilite containing abundant daubréelite exsolutions. No chondrules detected. Geochemistry: enstatite: Fs0.1±0.04Wo0.7±0.1 (Fs0.1-0.2Wo0.6-0.8, n=10); feldspar: An20.9±3.2Ab76.4±2.8Or2.7±0.5 (An14.6-24.9Ab72.8-81.7Or2.3-3.7, n=10); kamacite: Ni=5.01±0.70, Si=1.87±0.01, Co=0.31±0.02, n=5; (Mn,Mg,Fe)S: Fe=16.8±0.1 Classification: Enstatite chondrite (EL6a). EL designation based on silicon contents in kamacite and presence of alabandite. ELa subgroup based on Fe contents in alabandite and Ni contents in kamacite (Weyrauch et al., 2017).
