Buste « Vanité » féminine – bois sculpté et os– XIXᵉ siècle 

Buste féminin en bois sculpté, représentant un buste vêtu et coiffé, dont le visage est remplacé par un crâne humain miniature, minutieusement taillé dans l’os.

Ce mélange de réalisme et de symbolisme reprend l’esthétique des vanités et memento mori, œuvres destinées à rappeler la nature éphémère des plaisirs et de l’existence. 
La pièce est montée sur une colonne cannelée à section carrée, en bois noirci, et présente un beau contraste de matières entre la chaleur du bois et la blancheur légèrement patinée de l’os.

Travail vraisemblablement d’Europe centrale ou du nord de l’Italie, XIXᵉ siècle.

Dimensions : hauteur 16 cm 
 
Usures d’usage et petites fentes au bois, patine d’origine conservée.
