Georgia O’Keeffe - Untiled / 1924

Poster reprint of Georgia O’Keeffe / Untiled 1924 In 1911 O'Keeffe was an elementary school art teacher and illustrator. In contact with the art world in New York, she met the avant-garde and her future partner Alfred Stieglitz. In the 1920s O'Keeffe achieved her artistic maturity, with this mixture of figuration, symbolism, abstraction and photographic techniques. She began to paint her famous large-format flowers, which, let's be clear, are explicitly vaginal. O'Keeffe gave a twist to these “feminine flower paintings”. This feminine eroticism links her to feminism, a movement that began to gain strength as the twentieth century progressed. The truth is that the artist was very free and did not allow anyone to tell her what to do in her life or in her work. Polygamous and bisexual, she loved Stieglitz (also bisexual), but that was not going to stand in the way of living life her way. She also had a very bad temper and would not hesitate to slap a child if he was bothering her. This is well known to Stieglitz's nephews, who used to spy on her when she was working... Naked, by the way, perhaps that's why her art oozes so much sensuality. In New Mexico, where she eventually settled, she was able to paint and live as she wished in her studio called Shanty, an artistic sanctuary where no one was allowed to enter. Size: 70 x 50 cm.
