ukio Mishima (三島由紀夫) - Yukio Mishima – 3-item Set (including a banned novel) - 1970-1984
This is a rare 3-item set related to the legendary Japanese author Yukio Mishima (1925–1970).
1. “Ken to Kankō” (Sword and Rouge) – a controversial book written by Mishima’s former secretary, which discussed aspects of Mishima’s private life and sexuality. Shortly after publication, Mishima’s family brought it to court, and the book was subsequently banned in Japan. This makes it an extremely rare and important collector’s item.
2. “Shūkan Sankei” Special Issue – a weekly magazine dedicated entirely to Mishima, published shortly after his death. It contains a detailed chronology of his life, analyses of his literary works, and reflections on his legacy. This issue also includes a red flexi disc (sonosheet) with the historic audio recording of Mishima’s final speech at the Ichigaya garrison, given just before his ritual suicide on November 25, 1970.
3. “FRIDAY” Magazine – First Issue (November 23, 1984) – the very first edition of this famous Japanese photo magazine. The cover is striking, and inside are photographs and reports relating to Mishima and the dramatic events surrounding his death. Collectors familiar with this issue will recognize its historical significance.
Together, these three items form a unique set that captures both the public and private sides of Mishima’s life and legacy – from a banned book, to a memorial magazine with an audio recording of his final words, to the debut issue of a major photo weekly.
