French Mantel Clock – Martial & Lambert, Paris – ca. 1900 This is a fine French mantel clock dating from the late 19th century, made by Martial & Lambert, Paris. The movement carries the maker’s stamp with the Medaille d’Argent 1889 award, a mark of recognized quality at the Paris Exposition. The case is crafted in walnut with carved floral and scroll details on the sides, standing on small brass feet. It has a warm patina and retains its original character, showing some age-related marks consistent with its more than 130 years. The clock has an 8-day movement, striking the hours and half hours on a coiled gong. The enamel dial is classic and elegant, with Arabic numerals, original hands, and front protection with a beveled glass in a brass bezel. The movement has been inspected and runs well.
