Bright pinkish-red color with internal growth lines, characteristic of Verneuil rubies. Hallmarks: A gold purity hallmark and a maker’s mark with three circles (see photos). Style: Vintage signet/statement ring Era: Likely mid-20th century (ca. 1940s–1960s) Additional Information: The flame-fusion ruby technique was first developed by French chemist Auguste Verneuil in the late 19th century. Known as the Verneuil process, it was the first commercially successful method for creating synthetic rubies and sapphires. This process revolutionized jewelry by making rubies more affordable and widely available during the early to mid-20th century.
