Known as the Verneuil process, it was the first commercially successful method for creating synthetic rubies and sapphires. Using an oxyhydrogen flame, powdered alumina and chromium oxide were fused into crystalline boules, later cut into gemstones. This process revolutionized jewelry by making rubies more affordable and widely available during the early to mid-20th century.
