ITEM: Narrative description This outstanding samurai armor from the Late Edo period (1603–1868) represents a superb example of Japanese craftsmanship, combining martial presence with exquisite aesthetics. The suji bachi kabuto (ridged helmet), lacquered in black, is crowned with a striking golden maedate in the form of a crescent moon with a trident, a powerful emblem of prestige and spiritual protection. The fukigaeshi bear gilded floral decorations on blue background, enriched with heraldic crests. The full menpō (complete face mask), finished in black lacquer, conveys a fierce expression and is fitted with a tare of horizontal lacquered plates to protect the throat. The dō (cuirass) is a tōsei gusoku construction with lacquered plates laced in deep navy silk accented with orange. The cords remain firm and vibrant, reflecting the high quality of the original materials.
