Grosser Chakla mit Lotusrosette
Nordindien, 14.–15. Jahrhundert n. Chr.

Massive rituelle Steinplatte (sogenannter „Chakla“) aus Sandstein, mit einer zentral eingemeißelten sechspetaligen Lotusrosette. Chaklas waren fester Bestandteil der hinduistischen Tempelkultur und dienten als rituelle Basiselemente: Sie wurden verwendet als Standfläche für Götterstatuen (Murti), Opfergefäße (Kalasha), Öllampen (Deepam) oder andere heilige Objekte. Oft waren sie in Altarnischen oder Plattformen eingelassen.
Die in der Mitte eingemeißelte Rosette in Form einer stilisierten Lotusblüte symbolisiert im Hinduismus und Buddhismus Reinheit, Schöpfung, spirituelles Erwachen und kosmische Ordnung. Der Lotus wächst aus schlammigem Wasser und bleibt dennoch unbefleckt – eine Metapher für das spirituelle Leben im weltlichen Dasein. Die sechsteilige Struktur verweist auf zyklische Ganzheit und Harmonie.

Die Rückseite des Objekts zeigt drei erhabene, aus dem Stein gearbeitete Stege, die vermutlich zur Verankerung in einer Tempelstruktur dienten. Die Oberfläche ist durch jahrhundertelange Nutzung geglättet und zeigt dunkle Ablagerungen sowie rituelle Gebrauchsspuren.

Erworben in einem Antiquitätengeschäft in Zug, Schweiz. Zuvor aus dem Nachlass einer alten Sammlung übernommen (vor 1990).
