Casserole dish - Wood

Very nice coco de mer specimen polished and carved with a fitted stand. This coco can be used as storage or as decoration. The Coco de mer is the largest seed and one of the most wanted natural art object. This coco grows on the island of Praslin and Curieuse in the Seychelles and have a very suggestive shape. The ripe fruit is heavy (15kg to 25kg), so it cannot float on the water, it sinks instead until the flesh inside the fruit decomposes and then resurface thanks to gases inside. This is why we thought for a long time that this was the fruit of an unknown marine tree, hence the name “sea coconut”. Coco de mer are also called “coco fesse” and there are very rare now. Year : 1981 Size : 25 x 23 x 15cm Weight : 687g Origin : Seychelles
