Handsome first edition and beautiful entry in A & C Black's classic travel titles, this one with a whopping seventy-five plates in full colour by E.T. Compton and E. Harrison Compton

First published 1912. One of the famous A&C Black 20 shilling series, the first series in the world to include many coloured plates of well-known scenes. Described by J.F. Dickie. The book is beautifully and colourfully illustrated with fold-out map to the rear, coloured frontispiece, and 73 captioned tissue-guarded fine colour plates, painted by the E.T. Compton and E. Harrison Compton.

Published by Adam and Charles Black, London, 1912. Publisher’s original brown pictorial cloth with design based on the Prussian eagle blocked in black, brown and white on the upper cover, with black lettering. Lettering in gilt on the spine, with a design based on the iron cross printed in black, brown and white. Top page edges gilt.

Book Dimensions: 23 x 17 x 4.5 cm and Number of Pages: 227 including index

Condition
The book is beautifully bound, designed and illustrated. Firm, and well bound copy. External covers in nice shape, with light wear to corners, and edges, and with minor rubbings to spine ends. Internally the book is in very good condition indeed. A little name with neat ink on first blanks front free endpaper page. One plate appears missing at page 110 (please see pictures 29). Inner hinges are very good and pages are tightly held at gutters. The text and plates are clean and bright (Lovely Copy) (Please see pictures).
