The artist's technique of sommerso (multi-layered glass with immersed colour) creates the effect of soft colour waves refracting in the optically clear mass of glass. The shape is elongated, with a smoothly tapered top and deep side indentations that give the object a dynamic and sculptural quality. Model 5907, designed by Emanuel Beránek in the late 1950s at the Skrdlovice glassworks (Czechoslovakia), is one of the most expressive examples of post-war Czech studio glass. These works are distinguished by a combination of powerful plasticity and sophisticated colour play, characteristic of the early period of the workshop.
