Ford & Lansing’s Bibliography attributes the selection to Emma Thompson, by whom a Life of Cervantes was added to a later edition of 1882, and although there is no internal evidence to support this attribution, which is not made by the British Library or the Library of Congress catalogues, the text forms part of the fuller, later version, which the British Library states to have been edited and translated by Emma Thompson.
