A striking spiritual Russian Orthodox icon depicting Christ Pantocrator, dating from the 19th Century. This piece is a remarkable example of Eastern European art.

Christ is shown in the traditional manner of blessing with his right hand (the Benedictio Latina or Sign of Christ), a central and revered image in the Orthodox tradition.

Dating circa Mid-to-Late 19th Century, Eastern Europe.

Tempera on wood panel (likely gessoed). The icon of Christ is meticulously hand-painted and visible through the openings of the gold plated cover.

It features a wide border of detailed floral and vine motifs (grapes and leaves).
The halo (nimbus) surrounding Christ’s head is particularly dramatic, formed by radiating, spiked rays.

The icon is painted on a thick, solid wooden panel, showing expected age and patina consistent with an antique of its age.

The back of the wooden panel bears an older, handwritten romanian inscription "Sfintita" / "Consecrated" and a date, 8 Mar. 1974, likely referencing a later consecration or registration of the icon. The large painted number 990 appears to be an inventory or lot number.

The icon is in good antique condition. The wood panel is structurally sound. The oklad remains largely intact, though showing minor wear and handling typical of devotional objects of this age. The gilded finish retains a wonderful, rich patina.
