Zeer zeldzame kristallen geslepen karaf met zilveren montuur – Nederland, ca. 1800

Een uitzonderlijk fraai en zeldzaam voorbeeld van vroeg 19e-eeuws vakmanschap: deze kristallen karaf, vervaardigd rond 1800 in Nederland, combineert verfijnd geslepen kristalglas met een elegant montuur in massief zilver (.833). Een tijdloos object dat zowel als gebruiksvoorwerp als decoratief kunststuk zijn waarde bewijst.

De karaf is rijkelijk voorzien van een geometrisch slijppatroon, met strak geslepen facetten die het licht op schitterende wijze breken. De hals, schouder en stop zijn afgewerkt met een decoratief zilveren montuur, gegraveerd met florale en neoclassicistische motieven – typerend voor de stijl rond 1800.

De combinatie van oud kristal en zilver, in deze vroege en gave uitvoering, is buitengewoon zeldzaam. Karafvormen met originele zilveren onderdelen uit deze periode worden slechts sporadisch op de markt aangeboden.
